  1. 1. Who is eligible for Financial Aid

    Any student who is applying for any undergraduate or postgraduate program under the Somaiya vidyavihar University (SVU) is eligible for Financial Aid.

  2. 2. What is the eligibility criteria for Financial Aid?

    Any one of the following

    • Family income of less than 8,00,000 p.a
    • People with disabilities
    • Wards of defence personnel disabled or deceased in the line of duty
    • Applicants who have represented the state or country in any recognised sports
  3. 3. When can I apply for Financial Aid?

    The applicant must apply at the time of filling the admission form for the program.

  4. 4. What are my chances of gaining Financial Aid?

    Applicants chances of gaining Financial Aid are dependent on the following

    • If they fulfill the admission criteria of the program they have applied for
    • The documents submitted by them at the time of filling the application
    • Their financial need assessment and interview conducted by the FA panel.
  5. 5. How much does it cost to apply for Financial Aid?

    The Financial Aid department does not ask for any application fees for the Financial Aid.

    The applicant need to fit under the eligibility criteria set for Financial Aid

  6. 6. How long will it take for my application to be processed/ Approved?

    After submission of the admission form the college will shortlist the applications and arrange for an interview call. Usually it takes about 10 to 14 days for the college to send out an offer/rejection letter

  7. 7. If I am awarded the Financial Aid, What is the next step to receive the amount?

    The Financial Aid amount will be adjusted against the fees payable by you, Applicant will not receive any payout or reimbursement of fees.

  8. 8. What does Financial Aid cover?

    Financial Aid will only cover a percentage of total tuition fees for the entire duration of your program.

  10. 11. How much financial Aid can I expect?

    The financial aid is being offered up to 100% on tuition fees.

  11. 12. Will I have to apply for financial aid for each year?

    The percentage of financial aid granted to you is applicable for the entire course. The application will be accepted only once during the first year admission and it will be continued based on 75% of attendance and 6.5 CGPA

  12. 13. Is there any requirement to continue the financial aid?

    Yes, students should maintain min 75% attendance and more than 6.5 CGPA for the renewal of financial aid.

  13. 14. Can I apply for other scholarships out of Somaiya including a government scholarship?

    No, Financial aid students have limited access to any other scholarships.

  14. 15. What if my parents are not filling ITR?

    Then you can submit a government authorised income certificate or EWS certificate from the government of the present financial year.

  15. 16. What mode do we conduct our interviews in?

    Only physical interviews are conducted for local students and if a student is from outside City online interview will be conducted.

  16. 17. If I apply for the scholarship does it provide a guarantee to get the scholarship?

    There is no guarantee that the applicant will get a scholarship before the scrutiny . The funds are limited and students are selected on the basis of priority of the need

  17. 17. How can I ascertain the status of my application?

    If you get shortlisted for the applied course, with the offer letter you will be notified of the status of your scholarship application & further process.

  1. 1. What categories of scholarships opportunity are available?

    Under Somaiya Scholarship applicant have the following two opportunities

    • Merit-Cum Need-based
    • Need-Based Scholarship
    • Benevolent Scholarship
  2. 2. What are the basic eligibility criteria for Merit-Cum Need-Based Scholarship?

    Applicant have secured 80% and above in the previous academic year. Household yearly income should be 5,00,000/- or less.

  3. 3. What are the basic eligibility criteria for a Need-Based Scholarship?

    Household yearly income should be 5,00,000 or less. Applicants must demonstrate proven financial need and be able to provide evidence of their financial accounts.

  4. 4. What are the basic eligibility criteria for a Benevolent Scholarship?

    1) students' family income should be 5 or less than 5 lac

    2) Students can be from any institute or any course across our campuses

    3) student must have scored a minimum 75 % in their previous exam

  5. 5. What are my chances of gaining a scholarship?

    Applicants’ chance of gaining a scholarship completely depends on the quality of their application and financial need.

  6. 6. How much does it cost to apply for a scholarship?

    The scholarship departments does not ask for any application fees for the Scholarship.

  7. 7. Can I apply for a scholarship before being accepted into college?

    No. You can only apply for Somaiya Scholarship once your admission is confirmed and you have paid at least one installment of your course.

  8. 8. What other documents are required with the Scholarship Application?

    • SOP(Statement of Purpose)- Scholarship request letter to Somaiya Scholarship office
    • Income Certificate / ITR/ EWS certificate
    • All earning members bank statement for last six months
    • Employer certificate
    • Adhar card and pan card
    • Ration card
    • Rent agreement (if applicable)
    • Electricity bill of last three months
    • Financial Aid self-declaration
  9. 9. How long will it take for my application to be processed/ Approved?

    Usually, it takes 30 days post the closing date.

  10. 10. When will I be notified if I am selected for a scholarship?

    Scholarship awards are made between the 2nd -4th week of September every year depending on the scholarship Applications. If selected, you will receive an email from the Scholarship Office.

  11. 11. If I am awarded a scholarship, What is the next step to receive the scholarship amount?

    Typically, the scholarship amount will be sent to your respective institute against your name, Applicant will have to provide a copy of the selection letter to receive the cheque from the institute.

  12. 12. Can I be awarded more than one scholarship?

    For the specific year you can only receive one scholarship. If you are selected for the external aid , the scholarships committee will make a decision on your application

  14. 14. What do scholarship funds cover?

    Somaiya scholarship fund will only cover full/partial tuition fees.

  15. 15. Do I need to pay the scholarship money back?

    Somaiya scholarships are charitable grants that do not need to be repaid.

  16. 16. If I want to send a thank-you note, where do I send it?

    Once the applicant receives a scholarship selection notification by email, they can submit the thank you letter to the scholarship office. The scholarship office will provide the format of thank you letter which the applicant can consider while making the letter.

  18. 18. Who is eligible for the Somaiya Scholarship?

    Students who are in the FY- Admitted and SY onwards promoted in their academics.

  19. 19. How can I prepare for the interview?

    There is no need to prepare separately for the interview. It will be a formal interaction aimed at understanding you and your scholarship needs.
